Lost Title Music / 003

Welcome back to the Lost Title music series; a selection of new releases, deep cuts, and hidden gems compiled into a monthly two-hour playlist for your listening pleasure. What originally started as a gathering of record-collecting friends at my apartment, has become a virtual hangout to share whatever I’m spinning at the moment, along with vinyl features and related videos. Lost Title spans all genres, leaning heavily on jazz, roots, funk, house, disco, electro, beats, and the occasional pop banger while paying tribute to the artists we’ve lost along the way.

This month’s issue features Anthology, the sub-label of Mexican Summer with tracks from their compilation Sad About the Times, 70’s Australian rockers The Cigarettes, and the soundtrack to surf legend George Greenough’s film Crystal Voyager. Other highlights include Canadian alt-rockers The Nil, new releases from Black Coffee and Sleaford Mods, plus a deep cut from one of Dusty Springfield’s lesser-known albums. Rest in peace Chick Corea, Johnny Pacheco, and Prince Markie Dee.

Listen on Spotify: Monthy selection of new releases, deep cuts, and left-field gems found along the way. Leans heavily on jazz, blues, roots, fusion, funk, boogie, house, disco, electro, beats, and the occasional pop banger, while paying tribute to the artists we've lost along the way.

Return to Forever 1974

Return to Forever 1974

My friend was taking a music class in college and the song “Spain” was part of his listening exercises. We’d run down the list of songs together and try to remember all the artists, searing Chick Corea into my consciousness forever. Return to Forever is the very definition of a supergroup, with some of the heaviest hitters of the time including Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, and Al Dimeola. Chick was a true innovator with an amazing ability to weave jazz, rock, and Latin sensibilities into his playing. Check out a killer live set from the Old Grey Whistle Test in the video playlist below.

The painter of the colors of my mind
Reminding me of places we had been
I’m seeing clearer now–the truth unfolds
The past all drifts away
You’re back again my dearest friend

You never went away
