Lost Title Music / 002

rec-club-feb-feature.jpg

Welcome to the first online edition of the Lost Title music series, a selection of new releases, deep cuts, and hidden gems compiled into a monthly two-hour playlist for your listening pleasure. What originally started as a gathering of record-collecting friends at my apartment, has become a virtual hangout to share whatever I’m spinning at the moment, along with vinyl features and related videos. Lost Title spans all genres, leaning heavily on jazz, roots, funk, house, disco, electro, beats, and the occasional pop banger while paying tribute to the artists we’ve lost along the way.

This month’s issue is almost entirely comprised of new releases from 2020, with acoustic and folk influences pulled from Wilco’s own recommendation series. Highlights include legends who’ve still got it such as Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney, minimal soundscapes by Khotin and Mary Lattimore, prolific producers Alchemist and Madlib, and the late chillout/breakbeat pioneer Phil Asher. Rest in peace MF Doom, Mike Huckaby, K-Maxx, and Phil Asher.

artist Feature: Ronnie Scott

Live at Ronnie Scott’s 1968

Live at Ronnie Scott’s 1968

Last January, I met my friend in London for a week of live music, hi-jinx, staying out too late, and a general soaking-up of local culture. Little did we know it was the last time anyone would travel for a while, making the records I found even more special. While in Soho, I stopped by the legendary Ronnie Scott’s jazz club. Ronnie was a saxophonist and bandleader, co-founding the club in 1959, which still features regular live music (streaming for now) over 60 years later. While shopping the jazz selection at IF music, I found this live set from 1968. For more about Ronnie Scott, check out the BBC documentary Ronnie’s.
