Alex Steinweiss is the master behind these artworks. In the 40s record covers hadn’t a cool and fancy design. Untill Mr. Steinweiss had the idea to create some great illustrations to give them more character at first sight. While artists at that time were universal graphic design soldiers and could even design everything they were told to as a young art director of columbia records he saw his chance to make something new out of the brown vintage wrapper the records had before. Combining bold typography and handmade letterings with interesting illustrations, columbia records had a great gold rush in 1940 out of Mr. Steinweiss’ idea.
The first mix to kick off a series for Lost Title Studio is a 3hr selection of old and new tracks from various rabbit holes I’ve been diving into. Roots music with deep grooves. Get lost!
